Even if you’re not a baseball fan, I’m sure you heard that the Cubs are going to the World Series — for the first time since 1945! I watched the game at Cubs bar in NYC and it was amazing. Everyone was so excited!
I am by no means a huge sports fan (at all) but after growing up in Chicago and especially after spending four years up at Syracuse I’ve been to my fair share of sports games. Though I’m no longer in college, I still go watch Syracuse games (and Cubs games, obviously!) at bars around the city with friends.
As for dressing for said occasions, my #1 place to buy team apparel is at thrift stores. I found this Cubs shirt at a Salvation Army back in high school (and picked up another shirt when I was home last week!) My senior year at Syracuse, a thrift store opened on campus, and I got my favorite Syracuse sweatshirt there. Oftentimes, you can find worn-in, old-school-looking shirts for dirt cheap. That sweatshirt was just $7 — and I’ve gotten so many compliments on it! This Cubs shirt couldn’t have been more than $5.
I may not splurge on sports gear, but I definitely made a sports splurge this week. On Sunday, I booked last minute flights to Chicago for this upcoming weekend! I’ll fly in in time for game four and will leave the morning after a potential game seven. I feel a little nuts, but flights were pretty affordable so I figured why not?
Though there’s no way I’m getting tickets to the actual games (they are going for thousands!) I’m just psyched to be in Wrigleyville for the last few games. I’m not the most spontaneous person, so this is big for me!
If you’re not a Cubs fan, send good vibes to Chicago this week! This could mean the end of a 108 year drought!
