Y’all, spring is here. It was absolutely gorgeous this weekend: The sun was out, the temperatures were up, and it totally had a positive effect on my mood. Saturday I headed to Brooklyn to see the Georgia O’Keeffe show at the Brooklyn Museum. I highly recommend checking it out if you’re in the area, it’s an interesting look at her life + her fashion, too. She really seemed to pioneer the whole all-black, simplistic look for artists. It was an unique perspective on her legacy. Sunday I went out for brunch in my neighborhood with a friend and we dined al fresco! I mean, how could we not, with this weather. (And it’s only supposed to be better today!)
Though it was warmer, It wasn’t quite yet warm enough to break out this one-shoulder top without a jacket, but clearly, I went for it. It’s a dupe for a Milly top, which is now on sale, but still far out of my price range for a simple summer shirt. This version from SheIn is still pretty great quality, and I love the adorable details, like the ribbon trim. I’ve ordered from SheIn in the past, and I really think it’s a great spot to get trendy items. Last year, I picked up a bunch of off-the-shoulder tops and beach cover-ups. I can’t wait to break them out again this year!
There’s a story behind these culottes. To be honest, I never got the trend and thought it looked a little weird. And then, in December 2015, I had the chance to meet Downton Abbey star Michelle Dockery. I’m so in love with that show, and Lady Mary, who she plays, is my favorite character. So this was a big moment for me. HUGE. I may or may not have jumped up and down in a subway station following our meeting. My co-worker who was with me can vouch for this.
When we met, she was wearing culottes and looked so dang chic. I mean, she’d look stylish in a paper bag, but still. It totally changed my mind about the item, and I immediately ordered a pair online. A year later, I still think it’s a super elegant look, and a nice change from your standard straight or skinny leg pant. Though I don’t think I look quite as good in them as she does. 🙂
Hope you all have a lovely Monday! I’m excited to out a dress with bare legs for the first time this spring! After work, I’m heading to a step aerobics class (very ’80s, right?) which I hope won’t be too painful — it’s my first one ever! And then Dancing With the Stars, which I’m not ashamed to admit that I watch. There’s a Cubs player, who retired at the end of last season, competing, and I’m hoping he makes it to the finals! #NerdAlert.
