While setting New Year’s resolutions often feels like a failure waiting to happen, it’s nice to start off a new year with a few goals in mind. 2016, though a weird year globally, had some good points in my personal life — working out more, reading more, and lots of travel. Here’s what I’m hoping to tackle in 2017!
Hello, everyone’s New Year’s goal. I’ve been better about going to the gym in the past year than I ever have been in my life, but I want to get even better in 2017. My ideal goal is to go to the gym at least twice a week (I know, a paltry number!) What I’m really hoping I’m able to do this year is wake up before work and go to the gym. I wouldn’t have to wake up crazy early to do it, but it’s just SO hard when I’m cozy in bed and still sleepy. Here’s to stronger will power in 2017!
2. Connecting with old friends.
Like with the gym, it’s often hard to find the time to get together with everyone I want to see. I’m lucky enough to live in the same city as so many of my friends from college, but often get so caught up in the day-to-day I forget to reach out to the people outside of my circle of closer friends who I see on a regular basis. This year, I’m really hoping to change that and reconnect with friends I haven’t seen in a few months (or over a year!)
I’ve always loved reading, and this year, thanks to a longer commute, I read a fair amount (25 books over the course of the year.) I’m hoping to up that number even more in 2017. If I could hit 50, that would be amazing, but I’m aiming for a more realistic 35. I also just got a New York library card, and so pumped to start renting e-books and audiobooks. If you have any books you love, please, please, leave a comment below! Trying to stock up my bookshelf for the new year.
Every month I look at my credit card statement and food is overwhelmingly what drives it up. Of course, some of this is unavoidable — we need to eat to live. But in 2017 I’m hoping to be better about bringing my lunch to work and finding other activities to see people than just going out for dinner. I really love going out to eat and trying new restaurants, so cutting back on the Seamless ordering (though really, it’s not one of my worst indulgences) is another goal. I’d also like to be a bit more adventurous when it comes to what I make at home. It’s easy to fall into a rut with my go-to recipes, and I’m hoping to branch out more!
5. Be a better blogger.
Since I started this site last fall, I’ve definitely learned a lot about blogging and how the industry has changed since my last go-round. To be honest, with all that end of year travel, I’m surprised I was able to keep this site going at all! Now is always a quieter time of year for my travel schedule (but busy at my job due to awards season) and I’m looking forward to spending more time on Pearl Girl.
